Most product recommendation sites imply more than they can support. This page states plainly how PitPrimer’s picks are made, what stands behind them, and what does not, so you can weigh the recommendations accordingly.
What we do
- Verify pricing and availability through Amazon’s official Product Advertising API, not by copying figures off a page. Prices move constantly; anything quoted here was pulled from the live catalogue, and we re-run those checks periodically to catch drift.
- Compare published specifications — cooking area, BTU output, probe count, temperature range, materials, warranty terms — from manufacturer documentation and listing data.
- Weigh long-run owner reports, with more attention to repeated failure patterns after a year than to the volume of five-star reviews in the first month.
- Correct things when they are wrong. Dead listings, superseded models and stale prices get fixed as we find them.
What we do not do
We do not hands-on test every product recommended here. A site claiming to have personally run a hundred and eighty grills and smokers through controlled cooks would be claiming something no small publisher can actually do, and we would rather tell you that than imply otherwise.
Where a recommendation rests on specifications and owner reports rather than personal use, that is what it rests on. Treat our picks as a well-researched shortlist that saves you the comparison work — not as a substitute for a review from someone who has run the machine for a season.
How we get paid
PitPrimer earns commission when you buy through links on this site, at no additional cost to you. That creates an obvious incentive, so here is our position on it: a recommendation that sends you to the wrong grill costs us far more in the long run than any single commission is worth. Commission rates do not decide rankings, and we do not accept payment for placement or for a favourable review.
Where a manufacturer runs a promotional campaign that affects our commission, that has no bearing on whether the product is recommended or where it ranks.
Safety
Barbecue involves live fire, fuel gas, carbon monoxide and food held for long periods in the temperature range where bacteria multiply. Our cooking content is informational. Follow manufacturer instructions for your specific equipment, verify doneness with a calibrated thermometer, and never burn charcoal or run a gas appliance in an enclosed space.
Corrections
If something here is wrong — a spec, a price, a discontinued model, a claim that does not hold up — we want to know, and we will fix it and say what changed.
